General aspects of Mantle Cell Lymphoma
Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) takes part to a group of cancers which affect the lymphatic system. This diseases are known as non-Hodgkin's lymphomas. The immune system is a part of the lymphatic system. It's role is to protect the body against agents that can determine infection and disease. It is represented by a network of tubular channels called lymph vessels that drain a fluid with a watery aspect known as lymph. Lymph is drained from different areas of the body into the bloodstream. It accumulates in the tiny spaces between tissue cells and contains proteins, fats, and certain white blood cells called lymphocytes.
Lymph circulates through the lymphatic system and it is filtered by small structures called lymph nodes. This filtering helps to remove microorganisms (e.g., viruses, bacteria, etc.) and other foreign bodies that can affect the human body. The lymph nodes are organized in groups and they are located throughout the body, including the neck, under the arms, at the elbows, and in the chest, abdomen, and groin. In the lymphatic nodes are stored the white blood cells called lymphocytes. They may also be found in other lymphatic tissues. The lymphatic system includes mot only the lymphatic nodes, but also the spleen and the tonsils. The role of the spleen is to filter worn-out red blood cells and produces lymphocytes. The tonsils helps to fight infection too. Lymphatic tissues also include the thymus. It is a relatively small organ located behind the breastbone. It is thought to play an important role in the immune system until puberty. Another important role in the immune system is played by the bone marrow, which is the spongy tissue inside the cavities of bones. The bone marrow produces blood cells. Lymphatic tissue and circulating lymphocytes can also be found in other regions of the body, such as the skin, small intestine, liver, and other organs. There are two main types of lymphocytes: B-lymphocytes and T-lymphocytess. The B- lymphocytes produces specific antibodies in order to destroy certain invading microorganisms The T-lymphocytes destroy directly the microorganisms or helps the activities of other lymphocytes.
The cause of Mantle cell lymphoma and of the other cancers of the lymphatic system called lymphomas is represented by the errors that can occur in the production of a lymphocyte. This kind of errors determine the lymphocyte to transform into a malignant cell. If there is an abnormal, uncontrolled growth and multiplication of malignant lymphocytes it may lead to the enlargement of a lymph node region or even regions. The malignant process can involve the spleen and bone marrow and spread to other tissues and organs. The results of the malignant proliferation are specific complications that threaten the life of the patient.. The symptoms and physical findings are different from case to case. They depend on the extent and region or regions involved and on different other factors.
Non-Hodgkin's lymphomas are considered to be lymphomas caused by abnormal B-lymphocytes and or derived from abnormal T-lymphocytes. Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a B-cell lymphoma that develops from malignant B-lymphocytes which can be observed in a region of the lymph node called the mantle zone. The Non- Hodgkin's lymphoma may also be described considering certain characteristics of the cancer cells which can be seen under a microscope. it is very important how rapid is their tendance to grow and spread. Non- Hodgkin's lymphoma can be considered a low- grade lymphoma The malignant cells tend to grow and spread slowly. There are few associated symptoms. There are also "intermediate-" or "high-grade" lymphomas in which the malignant cells grow rapidly. This forms require prompt treatment. Experts have classified MCL as an aggressive lymphoma, even if there are some aspects of indolent lymphoma.
According to various studies MCL affects men over the age of 50 years. Many affected patients have widespread disease at diagnosis, with involved regions including multiple lymph nodes, the spleen, and sometimes the bone marrow, the liver, and even regions of the gastrointestinal tract.

Colon Cancer and Nutrition
Colon Cancer also known Colorectal cancer. Colon cancer 2nd most deaths for cancers in the US. Colon cancer is cancer that starts in the large intestine (colon) or the rectum (end of the colon). The colon is the part of the digestive system where the waste material is stored. The rectum is the end of the colon adjacent to the anus. Together, they form a long, muscular tube called the large intestine (also known as the large bowel). Tumors of the colon and rectum are growths arising from the inner wall of the large intestine. Benign tumors of the large intestine are called polyps. Cancer of the colon or rectum is also called colorectal cancer. In the United States, it is the fourth most common cancer in men and women. It is the third most common form of cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related death in the Western world. Colorectal cancer causes 655,000 deaths worldwide per year. Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from adenomatous polyps in the colon. These mushroom-like growths are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time.
Colon cancer often causes no symptoms until it has reached a relatively advanced stage. Thus, many organizations recommend periodic screening for the disease with fecal occult blood testing and colonoscopy. It is common in the Western world, and is rare in Asia and Africa. In countries where the people have adopted western diets, the incidence of colorectal cancer is increasing. Most cases of colon cancer begin as small, noncancerous (benign) clumps of cells called adenomatous polyps. Polyps of the colon and rectum are almost always benign and usually produce no symptoms. They may, however, cause painless rectal bleeding or bleeding not apparent to the naked eye. There may be single or multiple polyps. Polyps greater than 1 centimeter have a greater cancer risk associated with them than polyps under 1 centimeter. Polyps with atypia or dysplasia are also more likely to progress on to colon cancer. The risk of cancer is much higher in sessile villous adenomas than in pedunculated tubular adenomas. Cancer is found in 40% of villous adenomas, as compared to 15% in tubular adenomas.
Chemotherapy is also used to treat patients with stage IV colon cancer. Surgery remains the primary treatment while chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy may be recommended depending on the individual patient's staging. High-fiber foods help move waste through your digestive tract faster, so harmful substances don't have much contact with the lining of the intestine. High-fiber foods are also rich in phytonutrients, which appear to protect against several forms of cancer. Calcium and vitamin D also seem to help protect against colorectal cancer. There is certainly just as much buzz about folate and colorectal cancer prevention as there has been about calcium. The jury is still out on antioxidants and the prevention of colorectal cancer. Taking antioxidants, such as vitamin C or carotenoids, may reduce cancer risk but other studies have failed to back up these results. Vegetables high in folate, like leafy greens, seem to offer particular protection from colon cancer, especially for those who drink alcohol. Cruciferous vegetables, like broccoli and cauliflower, also contain phytochemicals that may prevent damage to colon cells.

Colon Cancer From Cheese?
My neighbor was labeled as "cheese man", as he used to bring us lovely cheese specialties from his privately owned cheese house. After 2 years of the launching of the business, he disappeared and no one knew where he had gone. We started to worry. Later, after he returned home, we were informed that he had been to the hospital because he had developed colon cancer. How? - we wondered as he ate the right kinds of food. He used to eat high-fiber food for breakfast, yogurt, juice, tons of fruits, and cheese. He was one of the healthiest people we had ever known.
There was no reason for him to develop colon cancer, yet it happened. The reason? Constant exposure to cold in his cheese depot. He used to spend 8 hours in a huge fridge. A large piece of his colon had to be removed and he was living with a bag hanging from his side. He had immense pain and could only eat liquid for nearly six months. I have seen his pain and struggle, since then I have been very conscious of my circumstances and the exposure to which my body is object.
Cancer does not differentiate. It can come to everyone. Yet not many of us are aware of the risks that lead to developing this disease. Our digestive system is at times not given due importance or attention. People are not clear about the difference between their appendix, small intestine, and colon.
What causes colon cancer? Colon cancer can develop from growing of polyps in the colon. These growths that have a mushroom-like shape, are not deadly, but some may develop into cancer with time. The cancer is diagnosed through colonoscopy, a rather painful examination. Treatment is via surgical intervention which in certain cases has to be followed by chemotherapy.
The patient in many cases do not experiences any symptoms, i.e., asymptomatic. Therefore, fecal occult blood testing is recommended to be carried out on a regular basis. Symptoms become stronger with the lesion being closer to the anus. Such symptoms are changing in bowel habits. For example, change in frequency, quality and consistency of stool, bloody stools, stools with mucus, stool with melena (black color due to oxidation of the iron in hemoglobin as it passes through the colon.) Anemia with dizziness, anorexia, and asthenia, weakness are symptoms as well.
Mostly people over the age of 60 are at risk of developing colon cancer. Removal of colon polyps in time reduces the possible risk of cancer. Individuals with previous colon cancer are apt to developing it again in the future. This disease can be developed on hereditary basis. Needless to say, smoking is a high risk for this type of cancer.
Insufficient consumption of fresh vegetables and fish, and over consumption of red meat can lead to this disease. Naturally, if you are physically active, your digestive system works better and faster, therefore you are at less risk. Human papilloma virus can be the cause of this cancer, therefore you need to check the nature of your virus with your physician when you catch any. Early diagnosis can save your life.

Colon Cleansing And You
Your colon is a tube like structure that runs down to your anus from the stomach. It consists of the large intestine and small intestine.
As you consume food and liquids, these items accumulate in the bowel as waste products. It is necessary that the bowel should be emptied of these waste products, otherwise they become toxins and the colon health begins to suffer.
Good colon health implies the proper and adequate functioning of the colon and toxic-free state of the colon. Toxin build up can cause allergy symptoms, bad breath, infection and much more. These symptoms can be avoided through regular colon cleansing.
What is colon cleansing?
Colon cleansing is an ancient practice for rejuvenating the stomach system. Man has been practicing colon cleansing since 1500 BC. First of all, it was used in the Egypt about 4,000 years ago. Colon cleansing involves the healing, rebuilding and restoration of your large intestine to its natural shape, size and functioning ability. Colon cleansing refers to the removal of toxins from the large intestine to allow the proper functioning of the colon. When the colon is clean, your skin becomes vibrant, you become active and you are freed of stress. It reinvigorates your natural body functions.
Why do I require colon cleansing?
Colon cleansing is sometimes required because over a period of time, toxins become accumulated on the walls of your colon. This creates problems such as constipation and inflammation of colon and can lead to several diseases, even colon cancer.
As toxins keep on accumulating, these toxins are carried into the body organs through your blood. Then toxins can also affect the organs. Hence it becomes essential for you to clean your colon. Colon cleansing helps you to eliminate any colon diseases. It re-balances the body chemistry, and helps in restoring correct functioning of the organs. Colon cleansing also improves the muscles of colon and tones them up.
How can I get my colon cleaned?
As the awareness of colon cleansing is reaching more and more people, new methods of colon cleansing are also available. There are various methods available:
Colon Hydrotherapy: This process involves fusing warm and filtered water into the colon through a disposable plastic tube. This method involves delicacy and the practitioner should be fully qualified. There is no use of drugs or chemicals during the process. A small disposable speculum is gently inserted into the rectum from the hydrotherapy equipment. Then the warm water is passed into the colon. Colon Hydrotherapy involves light stomach massage and several fills and releases of water to remove the toxic waste accumulated on the colon walls. The fecal matter is then washed away via the system's waste disposal hose.
Every session of colon hydrotherapy lasts for about 45 minutes. About 35 gallons of water are transported in and out of the colon during the therapy sessions.
Enema: The Enema is generally employed to relieve a person of constipation. This procedure involves insertion of a small amount of water into the bowel via the anus. The method is effective for dislodging fecal matter from the lower portion of intestine.
Enemas can be effectively carried out at home and no training is required to undertake them.
Oxygen Based Colon Cleansing: This process involves consumption of a few capsules. These capsules are full of oxygen based chemicals. When they are ingested, the oxygen is released in the body and removes the fecal matter. This method can be used for long term colon cleansing. These capsules help in removing the toxins inside the intestines.
Laxatives: Laxatives are taken for the treatment of temporary constipation. It involves oral consumption of laxatives. These laxatives soften the stool and cause bowel movements by contracting the intestinal muscles. Laxatives are, however, not used for removal of impacted fecal matter. They can also cause dehydration in a person so should be used with care.
Before embarking on any colon cleaning regime you should consult a qualified practitioner.

The Deadly Secret Behind Colon Health
Colon cancer is the third leading cancer killer among men in the world and the fourth largest cancer killer among females in the world. In the U.S., colon cancer is the second largest cancer killer in the U.S. Changes in diets and environmental factors have caused an increase in people who develop colon cancer within their lifetime. A person's colon is the part of their digestive track where waste materials are stored before the leave the body. Even if a person experiences regular bowel movements, they can have fecal matter back up in their bodies for extended periods of times, even years. This fecal matter can release toxins into the body that can lead to several common diseases. A colon cleanse can help a person to avoid and reduce the effects common diseases by removing the waste and toxins from the large and small intestines.
There are several colon cleansing programs that are currently available and oxygen colon cleanses have become increasingly popular. An oxygen colon cleanse is typically something that is taken orally instead of the traditional colon cleansers that involve warm water or supplements.
Capsules or powder variants of the cleanser are packed full of oxygen-based chemicals. Once ingested, a chemical reaction causes oxygen to be released and transported throughout the body. The most common ingredient is magnesium oxide which aids in the release of oxygen over a 6-18 hour period of time. During this time period, the oxygen which begins in your stomach and then moves throughout your entire digestive system. While it moves through your digestive system, it carries food particles and oxygen power through your body, existing with your fecal matter. One of the major functions of an oxygen colon cleanser is to loosen built-up, hardened and impacted feces or toxins that have become trapped inside the large intestine.
Oxygen colon cleansers are not as comprehensive as hydrotherapy treatments, but they offer a natural treatment option that can be done from the comfort of your own home. The oxygen process helps to reduce the effects of many common diseases and in many cases can prevent their formation. Most ineffective colon cleansers only address the small intestine, and while they can be effective in bowel movements, they are not effective at moving the fecal matter that has been present for some time in the body out of the large intestine. Oxygen colon cleansers are more effective at reducing the harmful effects of toxins that have been released or are present throughout your entire digestive system.

How Radiologic Tests Help in IBD Patients: X-Rays With Contrast
Contrast X-rays are utilized along with the endoscopy in keeping an eye on and treating people with the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). These X-rays follow special liquid termed as contrast as it goes through the intestine, highlighting explicit conditions. Contrast X-rays of the small intestine are helpful for exploring at the lining of the small intestine that is not in the range of the endoscope. This is indeed essential, for instance in evaluating the presence of small bowel disease if you are detected with Crohn's disease. Even if the small bowel is covered by endoscopy, contrast X-rays can easily emphasize specific findings that endoscopy may fail to spot. Contraction of the bowel (stricture) and an irregular channel between the bowel and another organ (fistula) are two circumstances more likely to be detected with a contrast X-ray.
The contrast that is being used for these tests is the element barium. It is a bulky, dusty liquid that can be given by mouth or via the rectum. There are two kinds of contrast X-rays of the small intestine, and these are the small bowel follow through and enteroclysis. The large bowel X-ray is also known as a barium enema. However, the preparation for a small bowel X-ray is not regular, but at a lowest amount you should not eat anything by mouth starting at midnight prior to the test. The preparation for a barium enema is like that of a colonoscopy and needs a liquid diet the day before, a bowel preparation to cleanse the colon of stool and debris, and no food or drink beginning at midnight ahead of the test. It is important to do the instructions your physician gives you for various procedure.
After coming for the test and wearing the hospital gown, the technologist will obtain a plain X-ray, dubbed as a scout film. For a small-bowel follow through, you will gulp several cups of barium and then will have an X-ray taken every 15-30 minutes as the barium goes down through the small intestine and go into the large intestine. This process may take from one hour to five hours to accomplish. An enteroclysis is alike, apart from that the barium is positioned directly into the small intestine through a tube via your nose or mouth. In addition, a barium enema, barium and air are lead into the large intestine by means of a tube placed in the rectum. X-rays are taken to guarantee that the entire large intestine is covered and well pictured. A barium enema takes around a half an hour to finish.

Probiotics - Restoring Good Bacteria in Your Colon
Probiotics are beneficial bacteria or yeasts in the form of a dietary supplement. Taking probiotics helps to replenish the natural gut flora that thrives in your digestive system. Doctors and nutritionists often recommend these, particularly after you have had a course of antibiotics. Many health professionals believe that probiotics help to increase the strength of the immune system and help you combat allergies as well as assist your body in regulating the gut flora.
After colon hydrotherapy, most hydrotherapists will serve you acidophilus. This common probiotic is often found in yogurts and other dairy foods. As you get older, eat meat, travel, and use prescription drugs such as antibiotics and corticosteroids, the good gut flora that exists in our digestive tract begins to decline. Much of this flora will typically help our immune systems and fight off disease, but as their numbers decline this protection declines as well.
In addition to helping our bodies stay disease free, this gut flora also helps us to digest our nutrients, vitamins and enzymes, especially the lactose in milk and dairy products. Probiotics help us to supplement those floras and to replace those that have died off. Daily intake of foods that contain probiotics helps with a number of digestive issues, such as constipation. They can also help to increase the amount of nutrients we absorb, reduce blood cholesterol and even help to protect against tumors and colon cancer.
There are several different strains of probiotic supplements. The most common strains of probiotics include:
oLactobacillus acidophilus
oLactobacillus casei
oBifidobacterium longum
oBifidobacterium bifidum
oSaccharomyces boulardii
The lactobacillus strains are helpful to the small intestine, while the bifidobacteria is helpful to the large intestine, as the generally reside in these areas.
Interestingly, vegetarians tend to have a healthy balance of "good" and "bad" bacteria, while people who eat meat tend to have larger amounts of "bad" bacteria, particularly Bacteroids.
Generally, probiotics have many health benefits and besides improving your overall digestion, they also help to:
oPrevent gas
oPrevent bloating
oPrevent bad breath
oReplenish "good" bacteria after antibiotic use
oEnhance the function of the immune system
oHelp digest food
oPrevent constipation
Probiotics not only have a positive effect on your colon, but also in other systems of your body including skin, respiratory and genital-urinary tracts. I am also available for telephone consultation. You may request a consultation by email through the website. Consult with your physician before embarking on any weight loss diet program.

What Are The Risks For Crohn's Disease Sufferers?
Crohn's disease is an inflammation in the digestive tract. This can involve your mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, bowel, large intestine and anus. Your digestive tract is the body's lifeline. It helps to breakdown your food, absorb the nutrients in your body and also eliminate the waste. With the presence of this disease, these functions are largely affected. The disease is largely seen in the age group of 15 years-30 years. It is however even found in younger children as pediatric Crohn's disease.
The symptoms found are...
Diarrhea
Abdominal pain
Nausea
Vomiting
Constipation (in some cases)
Anemia
Fevers
Chills
Malabsorption
Weight loss
Environmental factors have been implicated in Crohn's disease. It is seen more in temperate areas of developed countries like North America and Australia. Genetic factors are also found to play a role in the incidence of this disease. About 10% to 15% of patients have a family history of Crohn's disease. Another 5%-7% suffer from ulcerative colitis. There is a high prevalence of this disease seen among siblings.
Risk Factors
Crohn's disease affects both men and women. The risk factors are as follows...
Age- It can strike at any age. The condition is likely to develop when you are young. The highly affected age group is between the ages of 20-30.
Ethnicity- Whites have the highest risk of the disease. It can even affect Jews and Europeans.
Family History- You are at a higher risk if you have a close relative such as parent or a sibling with the disease. Your risk is higher (about 30%) if your sibling is suffering from this condition.
Area where you live- It is more common in urban and industrialized areas. This can be because people in such areas are likely to consume diet rich in fats or take more refined foods. People in Northern climates are also prone to this disease condition.
Smoking- You are more likely to develop Crohn's disease if you smoke. If you continue to smoke even after diagnosis, your treatment can be less effective and your illness can worsen.
Complications
The following is a list of possible complications that can result from Crohn's disease...
Perforation of the colon
Abscess in the colon, abdomen
Narrowing of the colon causing obstruction
Toxic swollen colon
Fistulas- can lead to recurrent infections of the urinary genital tracts
Infection of the blood (sepsis)
Osteoporosis
Gallstones
Joint pain and arthritis
Colon cancer
Nutritional problems like weight loss and reduced muscle mass
Eye inflammations or infections
Mouth ulcers, gum inflammation and dental cavities
Anemia
Liver damage
Depression and anxiety
Blood clots
Skin rashes and ulcers
Crohn's disease sufferers have high levels of fluid loss due to diarrhea. This chronic dehydration can affect their kidney functions. So it is important for these patients to given attention to their fluid intake especially during warmer times of the year. They need to carefully evaluate their diet and select foods which help in reducing the symptoms and promote an environment for healing the GI tract.
Crohn's disease is a chronic condition that can recur at different times during your lifetime. You need to ensure you give proper management and treatment to help you deal with the disease condition. You need to try and improve your quality of life by accepting the situation and learn to cope with the condition in a better manner.
I hope you found this article helpful! To discover some fascinating facts about a new treatment for crohn's disease, and to learn how to treat crohn's disease in the best way, be sure to check out: http://www.CrohnsDiseaseFree.com/

The Hidden Disaster in the Small Intestine
The small intestine of course is where the food makes its most important part of the digestion trip. The vast majority of the assimilation takes place here so the preparation that took place in the mouth, esophagus, stomach and duodenum must be as complete as possible. As you know, if you read my previous articles on the digestion process, most Americans and probably a vast portion of the world's population eat for entertainment and not to feed their body properly. You only have to look around you to see the problems of obesity, and disease to know that there is something very wrong in the United States, the world's most advanced nation.
The small intestine is really a tube in three parts that starts at the pyloric sphincter (controls the amount of food that moves into the small intestine from the stomach), the duodenum (which we discussed in my article The Influence of the Duodenum on Health), the jejunum, and ileum. The food is pushed through the small intestine by a process of muscular-wavelike contractions called peristalsis. The inside walls of the jejunum and ileum are covered in wrinkles or folds called plicae circulares; they are considered a permanent feature. Another feature is the rugae which are considered non-permanent or temporary, allowing for distention and contraction. Extending from the plicae circulares are microscopic hair-like pieces of tissue called villi (Latin for "shaggy hair".
The small intestine is also lined with simple finger or columnar like projections called epithelial. The epithelial cells also have hair-like projections known as microvilli. The function of these three, the plicae circulares, the villi and the microvilli is to increase the amount of inner surface area of the intestine estimated to be 250 sq. meters or about the surface size of a tennis court. The reason for this large surface area is for secretion of enzymes and absorption of nutrients.
I could go into a great deal more detail here such as where the different nutrients are absorbed, why there is a layer of water on the surface cells on the microvilli, and how proteolytic enzymes cleave proteins; this area of the body is fascinating. But I just want to give you enough basic anatomy and function here so you can understand what a disaster is occurring in this most important area of your body.
As the chime enters the small intestine, sensors there on the wall of duodenum (the first nine inch section of the small intestine) can tell how much of this meal was actually digested in your stomach. As I discussed in the previous chapter your digestion is highly subject to the amount of plant enzymes present. Plant enzymes are only found in raw foods or plant enzyme supplements. They are not found in cooked, refined or irradiated foods that destroy enzymes. Plant enzymes in the food do the real digesting of your meal right down to the molecule level. If there were not enough enzymes, which is the reality of the American diet, then the meal was not digested completely and is dangerous.
There is a safeguard here; it is the functions of duodenum and the jejunum to continue digesting food from the stomach. But this function is really for fine tuning a properly digested meal from the stomach not to save an undigested meal every time you eat. An undigested meal cannot be allowed to travel into the ileum as this is life threatening.
Enzymes from your mouth, plants and pancreas continue digestion in the jejunum to fine tune the meal as I said above. But now we have an undigested meal here with one big problem the carbohydrates in the meal. The carbohydrates should have been digested in the predigestive stomach by the enzymes that should have been in the meal. So the carbohydrates undigested are moving into the jejunum. In the jejunum those carbohydrates can only be broken down into disaccharides by the enzymes there and disaccharides are dangerous to the body.
To be useful to the body those carbohydrates have to be broken down to monosaccharides (takes place in predigestion with the proper enzymes) which are single molecule. So we end up with a lot of undigested carbohydrates in the small intestine. Well there is a safe guard here at the ileum which is yeast and fungus that live in the small intestine; they will digest this sugar which saves the blood stream. But as I just said this is a safe guard not to be abused as it is abused in America. Where every meal is missing those vital enzymes in the predigestion and undigested carbohydrates are moving into the ileum.
What needs to be saved in the blood stream is of the utmost importance. It is the immune system that needs to be protected from this sugar. Because if this sugar escapes out into the blood stream it wrecks havoc with the immune system and you will have an autoimmune disaster. The autoimmune system through aggregated lymphatic follicles, nutrophils, lymphocytes and other white blood cells will work to clean this sugar up, this should not be happening. Too many of these particles in the bloodstream will drive your immune system crazy. If this is allowed to happen too often you will find yourself with an immune system that attacks you and you will have one of the many autoimmune diseases like multiple sclerosis as the end result.
